Singing
“Those who sing, pray twice.” –St Augustine
We are a singing parish. Our worship in the church is supported by pipe organ and choir. Our choir is not large, but they lead our worship music with quality and strength. The choir rehearses during the school year, and disperses among the congregation during the summer. More voices are always welcome–if you can sing, would like to learn to sing, or would like to join the choir anyway – please speak up!
Jam Session
In addition to singing in worship, we host occasional concerts and a regular jam session. The Jam Session takes place on the first Friday of most months at 7PM in the Parish Hall. All are welcome at the Jam Sessions, whether to play or to listen. Contact Chris Dudley or Carl Lockamy.
Pipe Organ Specifics
Our pipe organ is a “Double Artiste” built by M. P. Moller in 1975. The organ was rebuilt by Mark Steiner, of Steiner/Murphy Pipe Organ Co. located in Cumberland, MD. Clarinet and Chime stops were added during the rebuild for Durham Church. The organ was first played at Durham Church for the Christmas Eve Service in 2012. The organ was dedicated on Sunday, March 10, 2013. In 2017 the Durham Pipe Organ was re-dedicated, this time to the Glory of God and in honor of Benny C. Morgan, the retired organist and choir master.
