April 2024
Whew! We have made it through Easter Sunday and now into the 50 days of Easter. The lead up to Holy Week was fast paced, but we had a number of beautiful services that we were able to celebrate together.
Since my last Deacon’s Corner, we have been busy with some very special projects. Our first project was providing baby blankets for the ongoing refugee ministry of the Diocese. Deacon Susan Walker was the organizer of this project, and I would say that we totally overwhelmed her with our contributions. I was able to deliver that last group of blankets and bibs on 26 March 2024. Thank you to all who knitted, crocheted, quilted, and sewed. As always you totally overwhelm me with the response, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
As we do every year, we also provided Easter baskets to NETS that were given to our MT Hope/ Nanjemoy families. I would like to acknowledge and give thanks to Sue Kasper and Jinjer Azuree who took this project on and involved those at coffee hour in putting them together. Well, done and thank you to all.
One of the great joys of being a deacon, is starting a ministry such as the Easter Baskets and then being able to hand it off to the lay ministry. We started this ministry shortly after I arrived in 2018 and we have not missed a beat. Under the leadership of Sue and Jinjer I am sure it will continue but with renewed enthusiasm.
