Did you know that we have a Community Ministry group? The group is Gayle R., Melinda T. and Deacon Susan. Community Ministry actually has a line item in the budget.
We would like to be able to physically do things for the Community Ministry other than Joe’s Place, our Well and the Porta Potty that we provide through Lifestyles. However, as most of you know it is difficult to muster up the volunteers to help.
This year, Sue K. along with Jinjer A. have taken over the ministry of Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, sponsoring the MT Hope/Nanjemoy families and Easter Baskets for Neighbors Eager to Serve (NETS) from me.
But that still left us with money to spend on ministries. As a group, we decided to allocate money to six organizations in 2024. They are listed below.
1. Warfighter Advance: A veteran organization that provides education and teamwork to those individuals suffering from moral injury that need support. The organization holds 6 sessions a year at Lions Camp Merrick. Their core value is Giving Warfighters their greatest weapon back.
2. Neighbors Eager to Serve Others (NETS): NETS is a small not for profit organization of Christian volunteers working together to identify and respond to the needs of the Western Charles County community.
3. MT Hope/ Nanjemoy School; We provided funds to support the school in their Christmas drive.
4. Charles County Literacy Council: provides free one-on-one tutoring in reading, basic math, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adult students, including those who request help with math and reading comprehension so they can pass the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) and go on to serve our country. Your financial donations ensure that CCLC can continue to provide these much-needed services to our community.
5. Episcopal Relief Development: They partner with locally led organizations to advance lasting change in communities impacted by injustice, poverty, disaster, and climate change
6. Education Equals Hope (assist school girls in Ecuador) Education Equals Hope exists to provide for the education of those living in desperate and difficult situations! They give hope to children in Costa Rica, Haiti, Ecuador, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Madagascar.
